A Fiction of Freedom

To you, who still believe in stories,

Welcome to the Storm Post Office. Ushuaia, March 1991. This page is pale institutional green, fibrous as a well-used registration form. Whole words cut from different typefaces are pasted across it; a red staircase climbs to nowhere inside its frame; a thin black line folds itself into a labyrinth; and between the archive numbers someone has inked a few sentences of their own.

A writer who spent five years as a captive once let his mad knight say: “Freedom, Sancho, is one of the most precious gifts that heaven has given to men.” — Miguel de Cervantes, Don Quixote, Part II (1615)

We would like to believe that a story is the one door no warden holds a key to. Write us one. We will keep it beneath the red staircase, with all the others.

May your sentences go unnumbered
